What is the main point that Drehle makes? Does the author of the student essay your are considering address that point? What do you think about his claims, especially in light of the quick poll that we took at the beginning of class? How does this affect the author's ethos (his or her integrity; how much faith we have in his argument)? How does this essay compare to Victor's essay?
Drehle's main point was that the summer slide is becoming a big problem for low income children and there is not enough summer enrichment programs.
The author doesn't address this point he just gives examples and reasons why people wouldn't attend summer enrichment programs.
I think he is mistaken, even though you would think nobody would be interested to go. A lot of people would like the opportunity to attend a summer enrichment program.
It affected him because half the class voted that they would go to a summer enrichment program if they had the chance, which proved the statement he said incorrect.
In victors essay he is talking about his personal experience.
