essay

I agree, companies should be able to hire whomever they want. In the article "Going for the Look, but Risking Discrimination,"by Steven Greenhouse the author states that many companies have been hiring people based on looks and not experience. This is where it gets unclear and undetermined. Some people believe that companies are discriminating based on age, sex, race, or religion.  Are companies discriminating? Are they breaking the law? No it's just business. But a lot of people people believe they are, which results in government lawsuits. On one hand, companies are doing what is best for business. On the other hand, several people believe they are discriminating. In the article the author states "companies have been skirting the edges of anti discrimination" which means that they are right on the borderline of breaking the law, as long as they haven't broken the law let them do whatever they want. I've always believed that companies have the right to do whatever they want its their business, let them run it how they please. My conclusion, then, is that companies shouldn't have to deal with goverment lawsuits if people want a job they should work for it or look for another job it is plain and simple.
